
Mongolia promoted the Khanbogd – Shar Tsav Geopark, strengthened international cooperation for its future development during the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium

Mongolia promoted the newly launched Khanbogd – Shar Tsav Geopark and strengthened international cooperation for its future development during the 9th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) Symposium, held from 7 to 10 September 2026 in Langkawi, Malaysia.
Hosted by Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark under the theme “Celebrating Networking in Geotourism,” the symposium brought together 590 participants from 22 countries. Representatives of more than 100 UNESCO Global Geoparks, national geoparks and aspiring geoparks exchanged experience through keynote addresses, technical sessions, poster presentations, networking events and field visits.
Representatives from Mongolia participated through the project “Promoting Sustainable Tourism in Mongolia through Cultural and Geo Heritage,” implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and funded by Rio Tinto Mongolia LLC. The delegation included representatives of local government, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO.
