The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Mongolia, Damdinnyam Gongor, met with the General Director of the Chinese company "China Gas" (China Gas Holdings), Mr. Chang Lian. During the official meeting, major investment projects aimed at increasing Mongolia's energy independence, diversifying fuel sources, and developing deep coal processing were discussed. This cooperation is of great significance for the future of the country's energy sector.

The management of China Gas expressed interest in implementing joint projects in Mongolia and appealed to the ministry for support. The corporation's investment strategy is based on the efficient use of Mongolia's energy resources. The company intends to develop local electricity generation capacities in regions where there is an energy shortage. In addition, China Gas plans to create joint ventures for the production of high-quality diesel fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the growing needs of the domestic market.

Company Profile of China Gas Holdings:
China Gas Holdings Limited, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, is one of China's leading integrated energy companies. As of 2026, its annual turnover is approximately HK$ 73.6 billion (over US$ 9.4 billion). The company manages over 660 municipal pipeline concessions and around 500 gas stations, providing clean energy to more than 48.5 million households and businesses across the country.

Key Areas of Potential Cooperation:

  • Local generation and supply to regions: China Gas plans to launch projects for the construction of power plants with capacities ranging from 100 to 300 MW for large facilities and from 5 to 10 MW for regions with energy shortages.

  • Overcoming fuel shortages and deep processing: In the context of instability in international markets, the company is ready to invest in the production of diesel fuel and LNG directly in Mongolia.

  • Methane extraction from lignite: Methane extraction will become one of the priorities, creating a new source of clean energy in the country.

Government Support and Preferences:
Minister Gongor noted that comprehensive support for these initiatives will be provided within the framework of the national development policy of the Mongolian government. Investors are guaranteed a stable legal environment, as well as tax and customs benefits.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to form a working group, begin exchanging technical information, and develop a detailed feasibility study for pilot projects.
